Taking a Program for Personal Health and Well-Being vs Professional Development and Training
The Centre‘s Personal Programs (MBCT, MBSR, MSC, etc.) are facilitated by registered healthcare professionals. As such, our faculty are registered with one or more regulatory colleges – legal entities in Canada that are charged with serving the public interest by regulating the practice of a profession.
Most regulatory colleges are responsible for a certain province or region as opposed to serving Canada as a whole. With the increase in online service provision, amplified during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are starting to see some changes in this regionalism and some professions are starting to coordinate across provinces. However, it will take time for the regulatory landscape to adapt, and certain healthcare professionals may always be restricted to only serving clients from a certain province in which they are registered to practice.
For each of the Centre’s Personal Programs, you will find an explanation of where the facilitator(s) are able to provide healthcare services. If you live in one of the provinces or territories listed, then you can choose to take the program for personal health and well-being. And, at the end of the program, you are eligible to receive an insurance receipt (see About Insurance).
Everyone is welcome to register in the program, regardless of where the facilitator(s) are registered to practice healthcare services. However, program participants who do not reside in one of the provinces or territories listed will need to register for a program for training or professional development purposes only and will complete a different intake and assessment process. Insurance receipts will not be available for these registrants.
We look forward to welcoming you at one of our Personal Programs, regardless of whether you choose to register for personal or professional reasons.
