Mindfulness Program for Seniors

Supporting Well-Being, Connection, and Resilience in Older Adults

The Mindfulness Program for Seniors provided participants (age 55+) with a meaningful and transformative experience, fostering well-being, self-compassion, and social connection.

The 12-week program is designed for participants to:

  • Learn practical skills to manage stress and improve well-being
  • Learn how to better cope with challenging life situations
  • Cultivate self-compassion and self-care
  • Increase social connections

Over the course of the project, from June to December 2024, we facilitated three 12-week in-person programs, engaging 46 seniors with the support of Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre and Sistering in Toronto.

Participants shared how mindfulness helped them navigate challenges, from managing stress and anxiety to finding comfort in social connections. One participant described how mindful breathing eased their fear during a hospital visit, while another found the program as the “highlight of their week” during a lonely period. Many reflected on how mindfulness deepened their self-awareness and helped them approach challenges in life with greater ease.

The program’s impact extends beyond individual growth – it created a space where participants felt seen, heard, and supported. We are committed to expanding its reach, addressing accessibility challenges, and ensuring more seniors can benefit from mindfulness practice.

Thanks to the generous support of our funders, we will continue offering the Mindfulness Program for Seniors in 2025. Two new groups will be delivered in partnership with the Parkdale Queen West Community Health Centre starting in March 2025.
