Mental Health Week: Thoughts as Thoughts

The mind is always thinking…Experts estimate that the mind thinks between 60,000 – 80,000 thoughts a day. That’s an average of 2500 – 3,300 thoughts per hour. With mindfulness, we do not need to control our thoughts but just observe them like clouds floating across the sky. With this insight, we can step back and be less attached to their charge and better cope when we are in difficult mind states.

Blakie is the lead at the Centre’s Guelph satellite location where she facilitates both MBCT and MBSR group as well as beginner’s mindfulness workshops and silent retreats. She also facilitates online MBCT groups with the Centre. She has worked in mental health for over 13 years. and has additional training in CBT having taught a CBT for Anxiety group for 6 years. She is a certified MBCT facilitator and now mentors new MBCT facilitators. Blakie also has a private OT practice supporting Canadian veterans with mental health and addictions challenges and assisting people with successful return to work plans.
