DBT Skills Online (Ontario Only)

Start: Thursday, October 3, 2024

This fall, the Centre for Mindfulness Studies is collaborating with A Mindful Change to bring you a different kind of group therapy – DBT (Dialectical Behaviour Therapy) skills group. If you struggle with intense emotions, have a hard time getting through distressing situations, and maintaining healthy relationships, this DBT skills course is for you!

DBT Skills Group supports individuals in enhancing their ability to control their focus and attention, increase emotional stability, tolerate painful emotions without engaging in unhelpful responses, and develop and maintain healthy relationships. It does this through the teaching of direct skills from Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness skills. These skills have been widely researched and used to support individuals with or without mental health issues who are struggling with emotional and/or interpersonal dysregulation.

The group is 12 weeks long, 1.5 hours per group session, and lead by facilitators highly trained in DBT. The program requires active engagement in the weekly sessions as well as home practice over the week. This group is considered a compliment to any of the mindfulness programs offered at the Centre (MBCT, MBSR, MSC) and can be taken prior to or after these other programs.

Please note: This is not the recommended DBT skills approach if you are actively suicidal and engaging in active self-harming behaviours. If this is your current experience, DBT comprehensive approach is the recommended modality.

Timing
Thursdays
Intake Interviews (via telephone): You will receive an email from A Mindful Change to complete a required intake form and attend a brief phone interview a couple of weeks prior to the start date of the program.
Session 1 – 12: October 3, 2024 – December 12, 2024 | 6:30pm – 8pm ET

Bursary spots are not available for this program, if you’re interested in a pay-what-you-can spot, please see all available options on the Bursary Application Form
